India Unveils Prototype Tablet Computer For $35
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 July, 2010 : - - For those living in India who are unable to afford 500 bucks for an iPad, researchers from leading technology institutions have the answer in the form of a tablet costing 35 dollars. The tablet prototype, unveiled this week, appears to do everything that an iPad can do, including surfing the internet, running high quality video and various word processing operations.
Furthermore, it is a touchscreen, and can run on solar power, a benefit that the iPad lacks.
The tablet is specifically designed for students who do not have a lot of money to begin with, and if all goes well it will become available some time next year if a manufacturer can be found. According to the human resource development minister the price of the gadget will eventually drop to as low as $10, in order to make it widely available to students.
